Dreams, Purpose
Tonight is a big night for O. He recently finalized a “theme song” for a professional boxer friend, Martin Wright. Martin LOVED it and is going to come out to it tonight for his fight in Brooklyn. O is so excited. The quality is better than anything he’s recorded so far, and everyone is giving it rave reviews. You never know who will be in the audience tonight, or at a future fight… anything could happen. More importantly, he had a blast making it, and forged new and better relationships with everyone he worked with in the process. I am so happy for him.
When Orville and I first met, I really wasn’t fond of rap music, including his. Still, I admired the fact that he had a dream and truly believed he could accomplish it, with Yahweh’s help. In the almost 5 years we’ve been married, he’s stayed committed to that dream, and he’s made IMMENSE progress. He’s not at all the same rapper or performer, or man, he was when we began our journey together. It’s wonderful to see the growth in him.
I don’t like boxing either, by the way, but to each his own…
The point is, it’s important to support your spouse’s dreams, no matter how ludicrous (no pun intended) they may seem at first. Dreams keep us alive. I think the people who get bored a few years into their marriages are people who don’t allow each other to dream. Encourage each other to go for things, without fear! I used to worry about what would happen if O really did make it… how could he possibly resist the hourly temptation of gorgeous (and skanky) women throwing themselves at him? But now I trust the connections we’ve forged, the vows we’ve spoken in public and privately to one another, and most importantly, the Holy Spirit living inside us. Nothing can conquer us. Dream on!
